What is it?
The ProTerra Foundation is a not-for-profit organization that advances and promotes sustainability at all levels of the feed and food production system.
- Level I: Agricultural production;

What is it?
The Aquaculture Dialogue on Sustainable Soy Sourcing from Brazil consists of the feed companies Skretting, Cargill Aqua Nutrition, Biomar and Mowi, together with the certification organization ProTerra and the Brazilian soy protein concentrate (SPC) producers Caramaru, Imcopa and CJ Selecta to ensure that all direct soy purchases for the salmon industry in Europe originate only from Brazilian suppliers whose soybean value chains are 100 percent deforestation- and conversion-free.
The dialogue will strengthen the partner’s commitment to conduct business with integrity, and credibility, and support and promote alignment of their sourcing, production, use, and trading policies in agreement with the corporate social responsibility and environmental sustainability concepts outlined in The ProTerra Standard.
It will also work to develop and implement a supplier code of conduct to ensure that soybean farmers put into place safe working conditions and their employees are treated with respect.

Organizations become ProTerra certified by demonstrating adherence to each principle, criteria, and indicators of the Standard that is relevant to their business. Principle 10: Traceability and Chain of Custody applies to the three levels of operations considered part of the scope of the ProTerra Standard.

A regional interpretation of the above ProTerra Standard to help businesses engage and ultimately implement over time a sustainable approach to their activities or to help stakeholders gain confidence in the practices associated with products coming from regions with a diverse reality than theirs.

An interpretation of the ProTerra standard aimed at smallholders, based on the concept of continuous improvement and aimed at supporting the improvement over time of their agricultural activity.
The interpretation recognizes that in many parts of the world, especially amongst smallholders (including family farms), there is a significant gap between the reality and sustainable agricultural practices and food/feed production.
Therefore specific interpretations are necessary to help these producers engage and ultimately implement over time a sustainable approach to their activities.

It is based on the verification of a company’s management system compliance with sustainability requirements associated with its supply chain through independent third-party audits.

of soy products certified to the ProTerra Standard.
This report is an update of previous studies. With these updates, ProTerra aims to refine data collection to more accurately reflect the reality of its certified soy products and to evaluate its environmental reduction strategies over time.
