What is it?
Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) is a third-party certification program under the Global Seafood Alliance (GSA) – an international nongovernmental organization dedicated to advancing responsible seafood practices through education, advocacy, and third-party assurances.
- Food Safety;
- Social Accountability;
- Environmental Responsibility; and,
- Animal Health and Welfare
- Effluent Management;
- Habitat Protection and Site Selection;
- Water Quality and Sediment Monitoring;
- Sediment Monitoring;
- Efficient Use of Fishmeal and Fish Oil;
- Stocking Sources and GMOs;
- Control of Escapes;
- Biodiversity and Wildlife Protection; and
- Storage and Management of Farm Supplies and Solid Wastes.
What is it?
Under the Global Seafood Alliance (GSA), the BAP farm standard (Issue 3.1) covers multiple species. A standard for salmon farms (Issue 2.4) is also available.
The BAP program has four pillars and an overarching set of Traceability Requirements. The pillars comprise the first four sections of the standard:
