What is it?

The IUU Fishing Risk Index provides a measure of the likelihood that states are exposed to and effectively combat IUU fishing.

The Index rates countries on their vulnerability to illegal fishing. Scores range from 1 to 5, with 1 being the lowest risk and 5 the highest.

Developed by Poseidon Aquatic Resource Management Ltd. and the Global Initiative Against Transnational Organized Crime, the index assesses how effectively coastal states combat illegal, unreported, and unregulated fishing. It helps benchmark and rank countries based on their response to this issue. Poseidon is a global fisheries consultancy, while the Global Initiative focuses on human rights, governance, and organized crime.

The tool provides an interactive map as well as rankings and individual country profiles.
