Pompano Beach, Florida. January 28, 2016 — North Star Seafood, Inc. and Sustainable Fisheries Partnership (SFP) announced a new partnership plan today, dedicated to ensuring the environmentally and socially responsible sourcing of seafood. This partnership will bring focus to seafood sustainability for North Star’s retail customers, cruise lines, and chef-driven restaurants.
The North Star partnership will involve comprehensive assessments of the sustainability of all seafood sources, along with the creation of improvement projects to enhance environmental performance. The ultimate goal is to ensure that all seafood for North Star and its wholesale division, IncredibleFish, originate from approved, certified sources or from fisheries and farms engaged in improvement projects.
Together, North Star and its wholesale arm, IncredibleFish, are committed to the purchase and distribution of fresh seafood in a manner that coincides with maintaining healthy ocean and aquatic ecosystems; that enhances fishing and fish farming and secures marine seafood supplies. Announcing the partnership, COO Josh Burman said “That is a huge step forward for us as a company in developing a program that will ensure our commitment to enhancing the oceans and guaranteeing sustainable and responsible sourcing. As the first distributor in Florida to partner with such a great organization, we hope to lead the way in creating a new standard in the industry.”
Katie Mihalik of Sustainable Fisheries Partnership commented, “SFP is looking forward to this collaboration with North Star and its other entities. Our work will focus on engagement of the food service sector in both Fishery and Aquaculture Improvement Projects.”
