Janean joined SFP as HR Director in 2015, after working with the organization as a consultant since 2011. She has worked exclusively in the nonprofit ocean conservation industry for the past 18 years. Janean earned a bachelor’s degree in cognitive and biological psychology with a minor in French from Cal State University at San Jose. A strong interest in language and linguistics led her to pursue positions in her early career that afforded opportunities for interaction with diverse groups of people, where she was drawn to the field of human resource (HR) management. Janean is a member of the Psi Chi International Honor Society in Psychology and the Society for Human Resource Management. With this background and 25 years of experience that also includes general operations, financial management, and almost 10 years in virtual-office environments, Janean is well-equipped for, and inspired by, the breadth of challenges that come with SFP’s unique, diverse, and growing global workforce. Her efforts are focused on ensuring day-to-day support and best practices in all aspects of HR management, implementation, policies, and internal collaboration, while leading expansion and improvement of SFP’s human resources capacity. Janean is based in Honolulu, Hawaii, where she and her husband have raised their family of children, dogs, cats, birds, and fish since 1996.
