  • Information You Provide – When you register or otherwise interact with the Services, you may be invited to provide personal information to use our full range of Services. For example, during account registration, we may ask for information such as your name, email address, street address, job title and company, and related information. We also collect information that you provide to us when you participate in Seafood Metrics, send email or other communications to us, and submit images, photos, videos, or other content to the Services.
  • Information About Your Use of the Services – In addition to the information you provide to us directly, we may collect information about your use of the Services. For example, we may collect:

    • Usage Information — such as information about the Services you use, the time and duration of your use of the Services, whether certain links have been followed, and other information about your interaction with content offered through a Service, and any information stored in cookies and similar technologies that we have set on your device. For detailed information about our use of cookies, see “Online tracking” below.
    • Location Information — such as your computer’s Internet Protocol address, your mobile device’s GPS, Bluetooth, or WiFi signal or information about nearby WiFi access points, beacons and cell towers that may be transmitted to us when you use certain Services.
  • Information from Third-Party Sources – We may receive information about you from other sources, such as publicly available sources and third-party services and organizations, as permitted by law.  We may combine this information with other information we receive from or about you. For example, we may receive information about you from a social media site (e.g., Facebook or Twitter) if you connect to or from the Services through that site.
  • Other Information We Collect – We also may collect other information about you, your device, or your use of the Services in ways that we describe to you at the point of collection or otherwise with your consent. You may be offered with a choice not to provide us with certain types of information, but doing so may affect your ability to use the Services.

We may aggregate or de-identify the information described above. Aggregated or de-identified data is not subject to this Privacy Policy.

  • Authorized third-party vendors and service providers — We may share your information with third-party vendors and service providers that provide services to us for a variety of business purposes, such as billing, payment processing, customer service, email deployment, security and performance monitoring, maintaining or servicing accounts, processing or fulfilling orders and transactions, verifying customer information, research, data hosting, auditing, and data processing.
  • Other Parties When Required by Law or as Necessary to Protect our Users and Services — We may share your information as we believe is necessary or appropriate to (a) comply with any applicable law, regulation, legal process, or governmental request; (b) enforce the applicable terms of use, including investigation of potential violations thereof; (c) detect, prevent, or otherwise address fraud, security, or technical issues; or (d) protect, enforce, or defend the legal rights, privacy, safety, or property of the Services, our employees or agents or users as required or permitted by law.
  • Social Media Services — If you log into the Services with a social media service or if you connect a social media account with the Services, we may share your information with that social media service. • Aggregated Data — We also may share with third parties certain pieces of aggregated, non-personal information, such as the number of users who accessed a particular fishery profile, for example, or the number of users who provided feedback. Such information is not intended to identify you individually.

Links to third-party sites

This Privacy Policy applies to our Services only. Our Services may link to third-party websites and services that are outside our control. These third-party services may be able to collect information about you, including information about your activity on the Services, and they may notify your connections on the third-party services about your use of the Services. We are not responsible for the security or privacy of any information collected by other websites or other services. You should exercise caution and review the privacy statements applicable to the third-party websites and services you use.

Information security

We have in place commercially reasonable security measures to protect the information we collect online. However, as effective as these measures may be, no data storage or security system can be guaranteed to be 100-percent secure.

Accessing and updating personal information

When you use our Services, we make good faith efforts to provide you with access to your personal information and either to correct this data if it is inaccurate or to delete such data at your request if it is not otherwise required to be retained by law or for legitimate business purposes. We ask individual users to identify themselves and the information requested to be accessed, corrected or removed before processing such requests, and we may decline to process requests that are unreasonably repetitive or systematic, require disproportionate technical effort, jeopardize the privacy of others, or would be extremely impractical (for instance, requests concerning information residing on backup tapes). In any case where we provide information access and correction, we perform this service free of charge, except if doing so would require a disproportionate effort.

Requests to access your personal information or deletion from our systems should be sent to data.protection@sustainablefish.org. Please note, deletion from our systems may render access impossible.

Other important information

  • Children’s Privacy — We do not knowingly collect any personal information from children, as defined by applicable law, without parental consent or as otherwise permitted by applicable law. If we learn that a child under the age of 13 has provided us with personal information, we will delete it in accordance with applicable law.
  • Your California Privacy Rights — California residents are entitled once a year, free of charge, to request and obtain certain information regarding our disclosure, if any, of certain categories of personal information to third parties for their direct marketing purposes in the preceding calendar year. We do not share personal information with third parties for their own direct marketing purposes.
  • Do-Not-Track Signals and Similar Mechanisms — Some mobile and web browsers may transmit “do-not-track” signals. Because of differences in how web browsers incorporate and activate this feature, it is not always clear whether users intend for these signals to be transmitted, or whether they even are aware of them. We currently do not take action in response to these signals.

Changes to this Privacy Policy

Please note that this Privacy Policy may change from time to time. When we update the Privacy Policy, we will revise the “Effective Date” above and post the new Privacy Policy. We recommend that you review the Privacy Policy each time you visit the Services to stay informed of our privacy practices.
