LandScale – Powering Landscape Sustainability
Global
What is it?
LandScale is a collaborative effort to drive improvements at scale by making reliable information about landscape sustainability widely available to decision-makers.
LandScale has developed a practical yet robust system for credible and consistent assessment and communication of landscape sustainability performance.
This involved two rounds of field testing and public consultation.
LandScale drives improvements at scale by enabling the private sector, governments, and civil society to generate and communicate reliable information about landscape sustainability. LandScale provides a digital platform to guide workflow. Its assessment framework includes a range of core, optional, and landscape-dependent indicators covering the following:
- Ecosystems
- Conserve and restore natural ecosystems
- Protect and restore biodiversity
- Maintain and enhance ecosystem services
- Governance
- Recognize and protect rights to land and resources, and reduce related conflicts
- Promote transparency, participation, inclusion, and coordination in land use policy, planning, and management
- Human Well-Being
- Improve the standard of living, especially for vulnerable and marginalized groups
- Respect, protect, and fulfill human rights
- Production
- Promote regenerative agricultural, agroforestry, and tree production systems
- Promote sustainability of other natural resource-based production sectors
LandScale assessments have been completed or are underway in a wide range of landscapes around the world and are highlighted in the Landscape Platform for registered users.
