Certified Seafood International (CSI)
Global
What is it?
Launched in April 2025, and evolving from the regional Alaska Responsible Fisheries Management (RFM) program, Certified Seafood International (CSI) is now a global GSSI benchmarked certification that assesses environmentally responsible fishery management using a standard grounded in UN FAO guidelines.
The Responsible Fisheries Management (RFM) Fisheries Standard Version 2.2, October 2024, is the current Fishery Standard in effect for CSI.
New fisheries currently wishing to certify do so against the current Version 2.2 Fishery Standard.
All previous RFM fishery certifications remain current and will receive full recognition from CSI until either the next full reassessment or April 2, 2028 (whichever is later) to transition to the updated CSI Fishery Standard.
An updated CSI Fishery Standard will soon be released for public comment.
The Chain of Custody (CoC) certification ensures that fish products with the certification label come from RFM-certified fisheries and can be reliably traced through the supply chain back to their certified source.
CSI uses a CoC previously shared by the Responsible Fisheries Management (RFM) and Iceland Responsible Fisheries (IRF) programs, renamed the Unified CSI Chain of Custody Standard.
