Hello Seafood Metrics users!

We are implementing an important update to enhance the accuracy of risk assessments for farmed seafood sources in Seafood Metrics. Starting January 1, 2025, the “Province/State” field will be required for all newly created farmed profiles. Including this information is critical for aligning risk assessments more accurately with the regional factors specific to your farmed sources.

We also strongly encourage you to update any existing saved farmed profiles in your “favorites” list to include the “Province/State” field. Profiles without this information will default to a “worst-case risk” scenario, which could impact the quality of sustainability reporting to your customers.

Here’s a quick overview of what this means for you, and how to make the necessary adjustments to your saved profiles.

Why “Province/State” matters

Sustainably managed aquaculture requires best practices at the farm level, production zone level, and national policy level. SFP’s FishSource Aquaculture scoring evaluates how aquaculture industries are adopting a zonal approach to management. By including the “Province/State” field in your farmed reporting profiles, Seafood Metrics can account for critical factors such as water quality, disease, and feed practices, which extend beyond the farm itself and ensure a comprehensive risk assessment.

* For more details on the implications of not identifying the “Province/State” with your farmed profile, please refer to our Aqua Metrics help guide.

What actions do you need to take?

For new farmed profiles

When creating new farmed profiles, please select the appropriate “Province/State” from the drop-down list. This step supports best practices for accurate risk assessment.

For existing saved farmed profiles

If you have saved “favorite” farmed profiles, please update them using these steps:

  1. Navigate to the “Find & Add Favorites” page within Seafood Metrics and access your saved profiles under the “Farmed” tab.
  2. Copy the existing profile by clicking the “copy” icon to the right of the profile you wish to update. This auto-populates the entry fields at the top of the page.
  3. Select the ”Province/State” field from the drop-down list.
  4. Review and save by clicking “Apply” to confirm the update, and then add the new profile to your favorites by selecting the blue “+” button.
  5. Delete the old profile from your saved favorites to maintain an organized list of up-to-date farmed profiles.

By taking these steps now, you’ll ensure your data aligns with best practices, supporting accurate and reliable reporting.
